| The
name change to Guildford United in
the summer of 2005 stemmed from a
desire to reflect that the club had
established itself as the town's senior
football club. AFC Guildford was founded
in 1996 as an attempt to re-establish
senior football in the town after
an absence of over 20 years - since
Southern League giants Guildford City
folded.
After starting out in the Surrey
Premier League, the club moved into
the Combined Counties First Division
after an amalgamation of leagues.
Success was achieved in 2004 when
the club won the championship and
won promotion to the Premier Division.
Our first season in the Premier
Division can be considered a success
with a comfortable mid table position
assured and an appearance in the
Premier Division Cup Final.
