Last
chance to snap up consultation with top
architect
Housing charity Shelter is
encouraging homeowners to help homeless
and badly housed children - by ‘employing’
a top architect for just £40 before
July 1.
For the price of a tin of paint and some
brushes, homeowners have the chance to
design their dream home, by signing up
to the annual ‘Architect in the
House’ scheme run by Shelter and
the Royal Institute of British Architects
(RIBA).
The scheme is a fantastic opportunity
for homeowners to discuss design changes
to their home with an RIBA chartered architect.
It’s very simple:
architects throughout the country give
up their time for free to offer hour-long
consultations to the public in return
for a £40 suggested donation to
Shelter.
From knocking down an interior wall or
adding a new floor or extension to redesigning
you kitchen or living room, a consultation
with an architect can help make your dream
home a reality, while raising funds to
help Shelter’s vital work.
“But there is only a week left
before this year’s scheme ends,
so I’m encouraging people to sign
up right away before the July 1 closing
date.”
Architects work on a wide range of domestic
projects from small scale through to extensions
and new builds. Architect in the House
offers the perfect introduction to what
they can offer.
Sunand Prasad, President of the RIBA,
said: ‘This scheme is a great way
to speak to a professional about making
changes to your home and discovering what
works best. And thanks to the architects
generously giving up their time, this
is a great way for the profession to give
something back to so many people whose
lives are being damaged by bad housing.’
1. The public can sign up to the scheme
at www.architectinthehouse.org.uk
until 1 July 09.
2. Consultations with a local architect
are subject to availability in your area.
