Farnborough
Airshow 2006
Farnborough is the oldest active
airfield in the UK. In 1905 the
British Army's Balloon School was
formed here. In World War 1 a number
of RFC and RNAS aircraft, airship,
and balloon squadrons were based
here. The Royal Aircraft Factory
was also based here which engaged
in design and construction of aircraft
for the War Office.

Guildford
Castle
Guildford Castle started out as
a Norman motte and bailey castle,
built soon after 1066. The wooden
defences were replaced by stone
ones during the 12th century, and
the motte acquired first a shell
keep and then the strong but not
very large tower keep that survives
today.

Guildford is the only cathedral
to be built on a new site in southern
England since the Reformation. It
struggled into being through the
depression of the 1930s, the Second
World War and the austerity of the
1950s before finally being consecrated

The
Ghost Tour of Guildford
The Ghost Tour Of Guildford was
founded in 2001 and runs every Friday
night from March to November (including
October 31st) in Guildford town
centre. It is the only independent
tourist attraction in the town.
Tours begin in Guildford High Street
on the pavement by the central steps
outside Holy Trinity Church (which
is on the right near the top of
the street a short way beyond Sainsburys)
at 8.00pm.

Guildford's Yvonne Arnaud Theatre
opened its doors in 1965 as a proud
memorial to the much loved French
actress who had made her home in
Effingham Common, and whose warmth,
humour and talent gave her an unrivalled
position on the English stage for
nearly fifty years.
